For Spring Yart 2024 I launched new items, brought some older work out of the vault, and classic staples of my table shows returned.

New items were my Mini Framed Mushrooms. They are lightweight epoxy I hand sculpt and paint and individually fit to each frame, no molds are used in the production of these creations. The blue double framed mushroom as well as a few larger framed mushrooms can currently be found at INMAN’S PICTURE FRAMING + ART GALLERY Website // Facebook

The next new items were ink splatter doodles initially created during the 2024 Eclipse that reached totality in my area – why does this matter? It probably doesn’t but I feel like sometimes we don’t have enough fun with art and doing things ‘just because’

These splatter doodles and cat doodles are part of an ongoing project where I am drawing on small sheets of photo printer paper. I will have a larger post about these later detailing the process more in-depth. This is a new process for me and i am inspired by the beautiful alcohol ink artworks you can see being created on youtube if you search photo paper + alcohol ink – I can see why they use that type of ink rather than regular calligraphy ink like I used here as the calligraphy ink really blend or flow.

Some of the ‘classics’ that I mentioned appearing at this Yart would be my leather craft feathers. As always they are made from scrap vegetable tanned leather, dyed, painted, clear coated and leather punched with added rivets and potential keychain findings to make gift-able items offered at a affordable price point (this is yart after all)

I tend to make them in whatever design I feel like in the moment so it is always interesting to see what styles people connect with or just entirely ignore – only to have the ignored style be what everyone wants several shows later.

Speaking of! It was my best year at Yart ever for painted canvas and digital print canvas. I am grateful to hav at last sold that strawberry digital canvas print and the hand painted daffodil 16×20 canvas among others. For whatever reason (probably spring) everyone was into the bright colors.

Sadly neither of the the still life mixed media of jars (seen below in two versions) didn’t sell. The original 18″x24″ mixed media collage/pastel/marker ‘Continuous contour line drawing’ sold at what was probably my second ever Yart years and years ago. I wanted to bring that piece back in a new reimagined way by printing it on canvas, reframing the composition, adding acrylic paint and texture mediums and giving it a gloss luster glaze. Maybe they will catch someones eye at my next show?

I also brought with me a few remaining small ceramic pieces from last fall. I have not done another ceramics firing since October 2023 so all I had left were candles, pumpkins, and a lone “TREATS” cat plate – and a hand built saki set – which I am happy to say did find its new owner finally.

Thank you everyone that came out, I hope you saw the secret sleeping raccoon, petted some nice dogs and got to chat with some fine people on a lovely day. Check the home page for upcoming events and save the date for Fall Yart 2024 on Oct. 5th

  1. This was a fantastic show as usual. And thank you for all the beautiful pics! I didn’t get to see a lot of this the day off ’cause we were all so dang busy.
